Bush: Iran an "existential threat to peace"

Imagine, W knows the word. This item appeared on the KDBC News website (CBS affiliate serving the ElPaso-Las Cruces-Juarez area.

WHITE HOUSE (AP) - President Bush says the U.S. remains committed to keeping Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

At the start of today's Oval Office meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert (EH'-hood OHL'-murt), Bush says that "Iran is an existential threat to peace" and that the world has to take "the Iranian threat quite seriously."

Neither Bush nor Olmert mentioned the prime minister's serious political problems back home. His popularity has taken a nose-dive because of a corruption scandal.

The scandal could derail the president's push for a peace agreement by the end of the year.
