Naked coffee

Man Arrested for Making Coffee Naked

A man in Northern Virginia is standing up for his right to make coffee in his kitchen naked, reports WTKR. Two passers-by, a woman and a 7-year-old boy, called the police on 29-year-old Eric Williamson Monday morning when they walked by his front window and saw him in the buff. Fairfax County police arrested Williamson for indecent exposure and said they believe he wanted to be seen naked. Williamson, who was simply making coffee in his kitchen at 5:30 a.m., vehemently protested the charges. "I'm a loving dad, and anybody knows that. And there's not a chance on this planet that I would ever, ever do anything like that to a kid,” he said. If convicted, Williamson could spend a year in jail and face $2,000 in fines.

Starbucks Brews Up New Cost Cuts by Putting Lid on Afternoon Decaf

To save money, Starbucks will stop brewing batches of decaffinated coffee after noon.

Instead, from noon on, baristas will brew decaf coffee only when a customer orders it, a process the company says will take an extra four minutes or so.

Stores that determine they have enough demand can continue to brew decaf regularly in the afternoon and evening. Starbucks spokeswoman Deb Trevino said the change shouldn't affect customers. "We're just saying brew it based on your store needs rather than a one size fits all," she said.

But Jasmin McManamy, a 28-year-old Chicago student, said the change doesn't make much sense to her because evening is the time when she's most likely to order decaf coffee at Starbucks.

"That's a long time to wait for a cup of coffee," she added.
4 minutes a long time? Oy.

Frothing Over a Starbucks in Little Colombia

A piece of local interest. What does the arrival of a Starbucks in Jackson Heights mean? Does it portend something? I know JH some; at times I go for street food vendors. And to catch the 7 train to Manhattan.

Little Colombia. Colombian food isn't very good; too much starch and meat, not much spice. And I say this as a Colombian-born man. Yes, it can be good, but overall, not my favorite. One good thing is Colombian coffee. Café con leche, without sugar, for me.

A line did catch my attention: Tara Darrow, a Starbucks spokeswoman, said the company, in choosing where to open branches, does not base the decision on “incomes or types of people there,” but rather, “We choose based on where we know people will welcome us and where we can be part of the community.” What a crock.
