Sarko kicks, Bruni smiles, England swoons

Nicky and Carla sure made a splash in the UK. During the trip, which concluded Thursday, Sarkozy gave a speech to a joint sitting of the House of Commons and House of Lords and attended a summit at Emirates Stadium in London, where Sarkozy met Arsenal Football Club manager Arsène Wenger (center) and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown (right).



Carla charmed the English, too. Wednesday she wore a Dior suit with a pillbox hat, a lá Jackie, and the usually francophobe tabloid press was impressed.Whirlwind tour: French first couple Carla Bruni and Nicolas Sarkozy wowed the British during a two-day visit in which Mr. Sarkozy spoke of his desire to ‘write a new page in our shared history, that of a new Franco-British brotherhood.’ The British press returned the compliment with such headlines as ‘Is Carla the new Diana?’ and ‘Britain is enchanted by Madame Sarkozy.’
