Classic April Fool's hoaxes

Big Ben Goes Digital (1980)
In 1980, the BBC unveiled a gem in its series of excellent April Fool’s Day jokes when it told listeners that Big Ben was going to have its iconic analog clock faces replaced with digital displays. Listeners were aghast. The BBC’s Japanese service took the prank even further, announcing that the hands would be sold to the first four listeners to phone in with a bid. Calls poured in from the gullible, including one from a Japanese sailor in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

"No" in innovation

An ad in today's Journal has this catchy slogan: "We put the 'no' in innovation". It's for Post Shredded Wheat, and extols its simplicity and immutability. It also has a website.

Two Protons Walk Into a Black Hole

This is an interesting, and kind of funny article.

Particle-physics jokes can be rather opaque. A classic example: "A neutron walks into a bar and asks how much the drinks cost. The bartender replies, 'For you, no charge.' "

Get it? No charge.
