Mrs. Sarkozy curtsies to the Queen, the tabloids run an old picture

One's past is never far away, especially if one is famous. Today, Carla Bruni accompanied her husband, the President of France, Nicolas Sarkozy, on a state visit to the UK (well, England, anyway).

Here she is with the Queen's husband (Duke of Edinburgh, is it?), the President chatting with the Queen, Prince Charles in back.

Sarkozy asks China to talk with Dalai Lama In a speech to the British Parliament on Wednesday, President Nicolas Sarkozy of France urged China to conduct a "true dialogue" with the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibet.

But the London tabloids, which make NY's own rags, the Daily News and the Post, seem demure in comparison, ran a 15-year-old photo of Ms. Bruni.

[my translation] The British could appreciate the charms of the French First Lady not only in the streets of Windsor, but also on the pages of various British morning papers, which on Wednesday published the photo which will be auctioned by the [auction] house Christie's of New York, in which Bruni appears as she arrived in the world, covering with a hand her noble parts.

Cute
